About Us

El Tequila Mexican Restaurant & Steakhouse has been a cherished family-owned establishment in Metropolis, IL, since 1998. As soon as you walk through our doors, you're part of the family. We pride ourselves on serving authentic Mexican cuisine and delightful drinks that promise an unforgettable dining experience. Our Story

Our founder, Samuel, came to the United States with a drive and motivation to learn everything he could about the restaurant industry to sharpen his culinary skills. At the age of just twenty, he had opened his first restaurant in Cookeville, TN before re-locating to Metropolis, IL in 1999 and opening El Tequila Mexican Restaurant & Steakhouse. Since then, our family business has only grown, and we have maintained our commitment to serve up delicious food and inspire personal connections. We’ve proudly been serving the Metropolis community and surrounding areas for over twenty years, and plan to continue serving our community for many years to come!

We’re proud to offer a wide variety of food and drink options for every palate. We offer tasty favorites such as tacos, burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, homemade tamales, combination dinners, and much more. The previous restaurant on location was well known for their exceptional steaks, and we were lucky enough to have them pass down their recipe and secrets to us, allowing us to diversify our menu and continue to offer these mouthwatering steaks to our loyal customers. We also have a full bar serving beer, liquor, and wine, as well as our renowned margaritas. From our authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex to American lunch staples, we have something delicious for everybody!

When customers come into our restaurant, they can expect a fun and exciting atmosphere with fast and friendly service. We are passionate about family, community, and good food, and we believe we’ve intertwined those passions in our restaurant. We enjoy seeing people connect over our authentic Mexican food and we take pride in our ability to offer a special experience. We strive to be good members of our community and support our community members like they have supported us over the years. We’re grateful for the opportunity to host charitable events and fundraisers and be in a position to give back and help out our community however we can.

Whether you’re a local coming in for your weekly lunch special, or an out-of-towner passing through looking for a quick meal, we believe in treating everyone who steps through our door as a part of our extended family. We have a long-standing tradition of offering karaoke every Friday night, with some live music events mixed in throughout the year. Our colorful and inviting establishment is perfect for accommodating group parties and events.

BOMB. Me and bro came up from TN to get some of the sticky icky from the dispo. We boxed in the car before coming in, AND LET ME TELL YOU, that is the best place to be when the munchies hit. The salsa and chips were definitely better than most places, tho the chip were a bit thin and broke easily they were very flavorful. The chimichangas I got were perfectly seasoned and fried. The beans and rice were what you’d usually expect. The guacamole they give with the plate was to die for. You can taste each vegetable and seasoning that went in, and it is balanced so well! Definitely made fresh. The service was reasonable, and wait time was actually pleasantly quick. The whole atmosphere, inside and out , screamed that this would be a great and authentic Mexican experience, and I definitely feel I was not deceived. Will be back next zaza trip. Would give more stars if I could.
